Teaser Infrared Image - What is it?

This week we would like to give special thanks to our guest thermographer, C.K. Ang, for sharing his Teaser Infrared Images with the Thermal Imaging Blog all the way from New Zealand! The image was taken with a Fluke Ti55FT thermal imager with a telephoto lens, as to not get too close. The emissivity setting for the image was set to .20, which may be generous considering what the material appears to be made of.   This image should generate some interesting answers!

  • Ok… so in the office we’ve had some interesting/amusing guesses. Firstly we’ve had ‘nuclear reactor’ and then we’ve had ‘a bomb’ (yes we have a vivid imagination here) and I guessed ‘submarine engine’. I highly doubt we’re even close, but we’re all still squinting and guessing at this one! Good Photo!!

It might be a furnance of some type maybe just firing up or cooling down?? . Could just as well be ,at this point, a giant waffle iron grid for making giraffe shaped waffles, I’ve moved on from pancakes.

It could be an operating furnance in full operation mode and the image shows break down in the interior liner and/or insulation.(starting up and shutting down modes may also show the same pattern, but I had waffles on my mind)I can’t wait to see what it actually is.

  • Totally stumped on this one. Great image, looking forward to the answer.

Great picture !, that part in the top of the picture looks for me like some rear wing.. but.. that strange waffle iron grid shaped wall, no idea of what could be.. but maybe that “rear wing” is part of something that is heating up that strange wall
