Teaser Infrared Image - The Answer

Thanks for waiting…

Answer: The image is showing a shaft with parallel bearings connecting a triple belt pulley system to a blower system! One bearing set is elevated nearly 20 degrees F showing a potential problem which could be lack of lubrication, bearing wear or misalignment. In this case we injected lubrication and could see the temperature decrease to normal during the re-lubrication process.

Thanks a lot to all those who participated–there were some great guesses! The best answer, though? From Taylor Goodman!

@motorrewinds: two plummer block bearings. Suspect DE bearing is hot. Is this the locked down bearing? Poss fan application? 122 is warm.

Hope you all enjoyed this little brain teaser. Let us know if you’d like more–or if you have your own :) Have a great Holiday weekend!

How about the visible image? I’d love to the the actual target side by side, and even blended, instead of the thermal image again. Thanks!
